FACTS ABOUT PCP
- PCP
stands for phencyclidine. It was
developed as an anesthetic but abandoned due to bad side effects.
- The
usual dose is about 3mg but it varies, (mg. is an abbreviation for
milligram or one-thousandth of a gram).
It can be smoked or taken by mouth.
- The
effects are emotional withdrawal, concrete thinking (lack of abstract
thinking such as inability to understand proverbs), and catatonic
posturing (immobility with rigidity or inflexibility), hallucinations that
are accompanied by hostility or assaults.
- It is
not addictive but may lead to permanent brain damage.
- If the
dose is excessive it may cause coma and death.
